virtual retreat weekends

with Ty Chandler & Sharoni fixler

about the virtual retreat

Immerse yourself in a weekend of retreat-style practice for recuperation, re-energizing and deepening your practice. This virtual gathering is designed to bring you the experience of an at home retreat with practice and reflection and with the guidance of expert teachers. An opportunity to disconnect from your daily life and focus on yourself. Experience the transformative effects of sustained practice.

This retreat format asks us to meet ourselves through sustained practice, sequenced to progressively open the body through concentrated effort and awareness. In the yoga sutras of Patanjali, it's explained that yoga practice should consist of effort or action, self study and surrender or letting go. He goes on by saying that practice should be for long periods of time, uninterrupted and practiced with love and respect. As yoga practitioners we all face starting, stopping, and restarting, irregularity and procrastination. In these practice intensives we aim to create daily structure, high quality Iyengar instruction and a supportive atmosphere and community.

This style of condensed practice gives time to consolidate what has been learned in technical study. It helps a practitioner break undesirable habits and establish positive ones. Through the process we face ourselves. We face challenges and we also unearth our sensitivity and our strength, our inspiration and appreciation through a committed journey.

With the focus being more on practicing rather than learning new techniques and collecting more points, one has the opportunity to be in a more meditative state. Being with like minded practitioners creates a supportive atmosphere to assist in going beyond where we go when practicing alone. And finally, we aim to cultivate love and respect in order to stay the course of a lifetime of practice.

student experiences

“I would also like to pass on so much gratitude to Sharoni and Ty for this wonderful weekend of practice! My birthday is on Monday, so it was a beautiful birthday weekend of self-care. A much needed return to a stronger practice from the more recent, little bit compromised physical practice since returning to university a year and a half ago (so much sitting!) combined with a bit of burnout...restorative has been more of my go-to in the last months. So, thanks for a great weekend, nice to have this weekend as I start balancing my strength again, and touch in with parts of myself that could use a little love and attention, and a weee bit of fire once again! Haha! Thank you for guiding us safely there, and for offering so much care, attention, concern towards your students and for your dedication to this beautiful practice and way of life! Yay yoga!”

“The weekend was nourishing on so many level - mind, body, spirit. The long hours of practice allow you to just be with the practice and watch the mind’s responses. Too tired to practice? Practice anyway and see what comes! The pacing was perfect and the sequences were challenging for students of all levels, with lots of adaptations depending on your needs. It can be difficult to retreat at home, but the format made it accessible to everyone - no need to travel or spend a lot of time and money to get a weekend “away”. We’re blessed to have some of the world’s top yoga teachers - we don’t really need to go very far for a world class retreat experience. Gratitude for Ty and Sharoni’s teamwork, energy, inspiration and guidance on this path!”
